Louisiana Lottery Makes Less Money, Pays Out More Than Arkansas

For 5 years, now, we have written about what an exercise in futility the Arkansas Lottery has turned out to be.

It pulls hundreds of millions of dollars out of Arkansas’ economy, hurts families, and pays back far too little money in scholarship funding.

Lottery officials have reduced the lottery’s budget for scholarships to record-lows for Fiscal Year 2015, citing lagging ticket sales as the reason. If that’s the case, though, then how is it Louisiana’s state lottery has consistently paid out more in education funding than Arkansas despite taking in less money in lottery ticket sales?

Here are the Numbers.

40 Days for Life Happening in Little Rock, Fayetteville

It’s time, once again, for another 40 Days for Life prayer vigil!

40 Days for Life is a semiannual prayer vigil dedicated to ending abortion.

Each spring and fall, pro-life Americans gather outside abortion clinics all over the country to pray abortion will end. This is an excellent opportunity for you and your church to band with other Christians in prayer for unborn children and their mothers.

40 Days for Life 2014 is going on right now through November 2! Over the next month, Christians will take turns praying outside abortion clinics; in Arkansas, those clinics are located in Fayetteville and Little Rock.

Below are links to websites and Facebook pages where you can learn more about how to participate in 40 Days for Life. I hope you will join us in prayer that abortion will finally end.

Why We’re Wedded to Traditional Marriage

John Stonestreet with the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview has a new radio spot out explaining why Christians are “wedded” to traditional marriage.

In his one-minute recording, Stonestreet says,

“Waiting for Christians to back down on gay marriage? Don’t hold your breath…the [Christian] faith has been surprisingly consistent on sexuality. Christian opposition to homosexual acts is of a piece with a much broader vision of what it means to be a human being, and Christians will never completely part with that view.

“Marriage…is at the heart of the Christian story. Scripture begins with a wedding, the Church is called a bride, our God a groom, and history is consummated with a cosmic reception dinner. So backing down on marriage for Christians means backing down on the whole story, and that’s unlikely.”

You can listen to Stonestreet’s full commentary below.
