On Tuesday we talked about the rapid expansion of lotteries in Arkansas. The lottery commission appears to be dead-set on more and more ways to fleece the people from their money. There are now 20 different kinds of lottery scratch-off tickets ranging from one dollar to 10 dollars. If past and present behavior is any indication, more scratch-off tickets will soon be added and at higher prices.
Yesterday we talked about the amount of money Arkansas’ lottery has fleeced from its people. Today I want to highlight that, once again, Arkansas’ lottery commission is back at work adding more lotteries.
No one seems to care where the $126.5 million dollars came from—the $126.5 “generated” by the Arkansas Lottery in 2009 that is. As if there was a money generator out behind the State Capitol spitting out twenty dollar bills day and night, Lt. Governor Bill Halter and the rest of the lottery cheering section act like it’s all free money! To hear them tell it, you’d think the $32 million they skimmed off for scholarship money was from a pot of gold at the end of some rainbow.
