Fort Smith to Get Safe Haven Baby Box

Talk Business & Politics reports that Fort Smith will be the site of Arkansas’ next Safe Haven Baby Box.

Arkansas’ Safe Haven Act of 2001 lets a woman surrender her newborn baby to law enforcement, medical personnel, and first responders. The law gives women with unplanned pregnancies an option besides abortion.

Similar laws are on the books in all 50 states.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes installed at fire stations let women surrender an infant safely and anonymously using a specialized, hospital-grade bassinet designed to keep the baby secure while a silent alarm notifies first responders inside the fire station that the baby is there.

The Safe Haven Baby Box reportedly will be installed at Fire Station #11 in Fort Smith by the end of this year.

Talk Business & Politics reports that there is an initial fee of $10,000 to build and install the Safe Haven Box and train personnel to operate it.

Arkansas currently has five Safe Haven Baby Boxes. Maumelle, El Dorado, and Rogers are expected to install Safe Haven Baby Boxes in the coming months as well.

Pro-life groups in Arkansas also are promoting the state’s Safe Haven law through a billboard campaign. Arkansas Right to Life has previously reported that billboards have been placed in 21 counties across the state.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes are amazing pieces of pro-life technology. It’s good to see communities like Fort Smith continue to make them available to Arkansans.

Conway Gets Arkansas’ Fifth Safe Haven Baby Box

On Wednesday pro-lifers in Conway unveiled Arkansas’ fifth Safe Haven Baby Box. The box is located at Central Fire Station #1.

There are currently 75 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in operation nationwide — including five in Arkansas.

Since June of 2019, Arkansas Right to Life has promoted Arkansas’ Safe Haven Act and the Safe Haven Baby Boxes through a billboard campaign.

So far, billboards have been placed in 21 counties. Arkansas Right to Life’s goal is to place billboards in all 75 counties in the state.

Arkansas Right to Life reports that future Safe Haven Baby Boxes are planned for Maumelle, Fort Smith, El Dorado, and Rogers.

Springdale Moves Forward With Pro-Life Safe Haven Baby Box

Last night the Springdale City Council discussed plans to install a Safe Haven Baby Box in one of the city’s fire stations, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Arkansas’ Safe Haven Act protects children from being abandoned. It lets a woman surrender her newborn infant to law enforcement personnel, fire department personnel, or medical personnel without facing prosecution.

Similar laws are on the books in all 50 states.

Act 185 of 2019 by Sen. Cecile Bledsoe (R – Rogers) and Rep. Rebecca Petty (R – Rogers) improved Arkansas’ Safe Haven law; it lets fire stations install Safe Haven Boxes — sometimes called “baby boxes” — where women can anonymously place their newborn.

Last May a baby was safely surrendered using a Safe Haven Box at a fire station in Benton, Arkansas.

Laws like Arkansas’ Safe Haven Act protect the lives of unborn children by giving women options besides abortion.

It’s good to see cities like Springdale move forward with installing these Safe Haven Boxes in their communities.
