Words from Our Founders: Paine on Monarchs and Godliness

Today we continue our series examining our Founding Fathers in their own words and considering their high esteem for religion, religious liberty, and virtue.

Below is an excerpt from Thomas Paine’s Common Sense. In it, Paine implies that a monarchy is an ungodly form of government while a representative government lends itself to greater godliness.
