Altar to Atheism at Arkansas State Capitol

As I mentioned yesterday, the Arkansas Society of Freethinkers has brought back their atheist display this year; it can be found on the State Capitol grounds—very near where the traditional Nativity will soon be placed. Far from being a harmless holiday exhibit, the group has devoted their entire display to an underhanded portrayal of Christmas as the pagan celebration of Winter Solstice, books that propagate atheism (such as God is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens), human evolutionary theory, and famous past and current “freethinkers.”

Arkansas ‘Freethinkers’ Agree to Settlement with State of Arkansas Over Atheist Display

Last December, we told you about a group of ‘freethinkers’ in Little Rock pushing for a secular “Winter Solstice” display next to the Nativity Scene on the Capitol Lawn.

The group won a lawsuit in federal court requiring the State of Arkansas to let them display their ‘Winter Solstice kiosk’ next to the Nativity Scene on the Capitol Lawn every year, and now they’re agreeing to a settlement with the State that includes the State of Arkansas paying the group nearly $26,000 to cover their legal fees, and according to the Associated Press, “permanently enjoins” the State from barring their display.
