Arkansas House Passes Bill to Help Keep Planned Parenthood Out of Public Schools

On Wednesday the Arkansas House of Representatives passed H.B. 1592 by a vote of 73 to 18.

This good bill by Rep. Mark Lowery (R – Maumelle) prohibits public schools in Arkansas from engaging in transactions with abortion providers.

The measure is similar to H.B. 1589 that recently passed into law.

Planned Parenthood has issued multiple statements opposing this good bill.

We have written many times about Planned Parenthood’s efforts to gain access to public school students in Arkansas.

H.B. 1592 will help make sure Planned Parenthood and other abortionists don’t work their way into our state’s public schools.

H.B. 1592 now goes to the Arkansas Senate for consideration.

Arkansas Enacts Good Laws Protecting Women, Unborn Children From Abortion Drugs

On Monday Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed two good, pro-life laws protecting women and unborn children from dangerous abortion-inducing drugs.

The first was H.B. 1572 — now Act 560 of of 2021.

This good law by Rep. Robin Lundstrum (R – Springdale) and Sen. Scott Flippo (R – Mountain Home) outlines the informed-consent process for chemical abortion. Arkansas’ current informed-consent laws for abortion are geared primarily for surgical abortion procedures. Act 560 will help ensure women get all the facts about chemical abortion — including its risks, consequences, and pro-life alternatives.

This will help women choose options besides abortion.

The second was H.B. 1402 — now Act 562 of 2021.

This good law by Rep. Sonia Barker (R – Smackover) and Sen. Blake Johnson (R – Corning) updates Arkansas’ restrictions on abortion-inducing drugs like RU-486. It outlines requirements that abortionists must follow in administering abortion-inducing drugs, and it prohibits abortion drugs from being delivered by mail in Arkansas. It also updates current law to ensure doctors who perform chemical abortions are credentialed to handle abortion complications and can transfer the woman to a hospital if she experiences complications.

This will help protect women and unborn children from abortion-inducing drugs.

In 2019 two out of five abortions performed in Arkansas were chemical abortions that used the RU-486 regimen.

With chemical abortion on the rise — and with the Biden Administration expected to relax the rules for RU-486 in the coming months — it’s more important than ever before that states make sure women get all the facts about abortion-inducing drugs and protect women and unborn children from these dangerous abortion methods.

Act 560 and Act 562 will protect women and help save unborn children from abortion. That’s something to celebrate.

Senate Committee Passes Measure Restricting Abortion Facilities

On Monday the Senate Public Health Committee passed S.B. 388.

This good bill by Sen. Charles Beckham (R – McNeil), Sen. Dan Sullivan (R – Jonesboro), Rep. Joe Cloud (R – Russellville), and Rep. Robin Lundstrum (R – Springdale) requires any facility that performs abortions to be licensed by the Arkansas Department of Health as an abortion facility.

The bill passed in committee with only one audible “No” vote against it.

S.B. 388 also prohibits abortions in hospitals except in cases of medical emergency.

Under current law, facilities are not required to be licensed or inspected as abortion facilities unless they perform more than ten abortions in a month. This means that a clinic potentially could perform more than 100 abortions per year without being licensed or inspected as an abortion facility.

S.B. 388 addresses this problem in state law.

This bill will make it easier for the Arkansas Department of Health to enforce our existing pro-life laws that restrict abortion at abortion facilities.

S.B. 388 will ensure that every clinic that performs abortions is licensed and inspected, and that Arkansas’ laws against abortion are properly followed.

The bill now goes to the entire Arkansas Senate.
