Today we continue our series examining the beliefs of past presidents with a few words from Abraham Lincoln on the existence of God and His generous blessings to America.
On God’s Existence
“Men are not flattered by being shown that there has been a difference of purpose between the Almighty and them. To deny it, however, in this case, is to deny that there is a God governing the world.” -Abraham Lincoln, March 15, 1865.
God is the Source of America’s Blessings
“No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things [blessings]. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.” -Abraham Lincoln, October 3, 1863
