You may have recently noticed we added an abortion counter to our website. It serves as a somber reminder of just how many children are lost to abortion each year. We based the numbers on some generally accepted abortion estimates: That 40 million abortions happen globally each year; 1 million of those occur in America; and roughly 5,000 occur in Arkansas.

Every three seconds, four children get aborted somewhere in the world. An American child gets aborted about every thirty seconds. And Arkansas loses one child every two hours, with roughly 13 – 14 abortions per day, 365 days a year. You have to stop and ask at some point just who it is we are aborting. How many of these children might otherwise grow up to become some of the best and brightest minds the world has ever known? Well, let’s see if we can find out.

Everyone has heard of an IQ score. It’s one way we measure human intelligence. It isn’t perfect, but it is one of the best all-purpose measurements we have.

The average IQ is 100. A score over 115 is going to be above average. Scores of 130 – 150 cover varying degrees of greater intelligence, and scores over 150 generally fall into the “genius” or “near genius” category.

  • On average, only about 1 out of 50 individuals will have an IQ over 130 or so; they are in the 98th percentile, or top 2% of human beings, when it comes to intelligence.
  • About 1 out 100 people will have an IQ of 135.
  • Roughly 1 in 1,000 people will have an IQ of 146 or so. At this point, we’re talking about the most intelligent 0.1% of humans.
  • 1 in 30,000 will have an IQ of 160.
  • And finally, 1 in 1,000,000 will score over 170 on an IQ test.

To put this into perspective, Steve Jobs—founder of Apple and, by all accounts, inventor of the computer as we know it—had an IQ estimated in the 150 – 160 range. Out of all the humans on earth, there were no more than seven million (probably much less) who were as smart or smarter than he was.

Now, with 40 million babies aborted each year, how many brilliant minds might we be losing on an annual basis? Below is a table showing estimates on IQ scores, the number of human beings (on average) who match or exceed those score, and the estimated number of aborted babies whose IQs match or exceed those scores.

IQ Score Humans with IQs Equal or Higher Babies Aborted
130 140,000,000 800,000
135 70,000,000 400,000
146 7,000,000 40,000
160 233,333 1,333
170 7,000 40

Breaking down the chart, on average, we lose nearly one million very gifted people to abortion every single year. We lose at least 1,000 people as intelligent as Steve Jobs. We abort 40 geniuses.

These are some pretty staggering estimates. It may sound like the setup for a bad joke, but what could we get from 40 geniuses in a room? What would people with that kind of intelligence have to offer society? How many Martin Luther Kings, Ghandis, Einsteins, Teslas, and Edisons has abortion claimed? We will never know for sure, but my guess is if we were ever given the actual numbers, we would be appalled.

With 17% of the American population lost to abortion, and unknown numbers of brilliant minds forever denied the opportunity to better the world, we genuinely are slowly destroying ourselves with abortion.
