Arkansas Legislature Passes Bill Addressing Fertility Fraud

*Rep. Gazaway presents S.B. 474 in the Arkansas House of Representatives.*

On Tuesday the Arkansas House of Representatives passed S.B. 474.

The bill previously passed the Arkansas Senate with strong support.

This good bill by Sen. Charles Beckham (R – McNeil) and Rep. Jimmy Gazaway (R – Paragould) prohibits fraud and abuse in fertility treatments.

S.B. 474 ensures people performing fertility treatments are honest, ethical, and abide by principles of informed-consent.

It’s a good bill that helps support and protect bioethics in Arkansas.

The bill now goes to the governor to become law.

NEWS RELEASE: Arkansas Legislature Votes to Override Governor’s Veto of SAFE Act

Little Rock, Ark. – On Monday the Arkansas Legislature voted to override Governor Hutchinson’s veto of H.B. 1570, the Save Adolescents From Experimentation (SAFE) Act.

Family Council President Jerry Cox issued a statement saying, “This is really good news. Gender-reassignment surgeries can leave children sterilized and scarred for life. Medical researchers do not know the long term effects these procedures and therapies can have on kids. That is why many people equate them with experimenting on children. This good legislation will protect Arkansas’ children from sex-reassignment procedures.”

Cox strongly praised the Arkansas Legislature for passing the SAFE Act and overriding the governor’s veto. “Arkansas has good legislators who strongly supported this excellent bill. We especially want to recognize Rep. Robin Lundstrum, Sen. Alan Clark, and the other sponsors who championed the SAFE Act. We appreciate their leadership, their moral courage, and their resolve to do what is right. This is historic legislation. Arkansans ought to be proud of their leaders for doing the right thing by passing the SAFE Act into law.”

Arkansas Legislature Votes to Override Veto of H.B. 1570

On Tuesday the Arkansas House of Representatives and Arkansas Senate voted to override Governor Hutchinson’s veto of H.B. 1570.

H.B. 1570, the Save Adolescents From Experimentation (SAFE) Act, by Rep. Robin Lundstrum (R – Springdale) and Sen. Alan Clark (R – Lonsdale) prohibits sex-reassignment procedures on children in Arkansas.

The bill also prevents funding of sex-reassignment procedures performed on children.

Gender-reassignment surgeries can leave children sterilized and scarred for life.

Medical researchers do not know the long term effects these procedures and therapies can have on kids. That is why many people equate them with experimenting on children.

The SAFE Act passed with overwhelming support from the Arkansas Legislature.

On Monday Governor Hutchinson vetoed the SAFE Act.

However, the legislature made the right decision to override the governor’s veto on Tuesday. This is good news, and Arkansans ought to be proud of their lawmakers for standing up and protecting the welfare of children.
