Faith Leaders Schedule Stand Against Same-Sex Marriage

Last week, the judicial system of our state issued a disturbing ruling which redefined marriage. This ruling goes directly against God’s purpose, plan, and desire for marriage. The state of Arkansas has long stood on the right side of this issue and prohibited same-sex marriages. However, following Monday’s court ruling legalizing same-sex marriages, ceremonies were performed across this state. We know that God’s Word still reigns in that He loves all of us but not our sins.

Therefore, more than 100 ecumenical faith leaders, Christians and elected officials from around this state ask that you join us on the steps of the state capitol at 11:00 a.m., Thursday May 22, 2014, as we stand on the biblical principles of marriage between one man and one woman.

We stand not in hatred but in love, not against a person but against the principle of same sex marriage as God has called upon us to do.

Lottery Officials to Push for More Ad Money

Arkansas Lottery officials announced over the weekend that they plan to push for a half-a-million dollar increase in the lottery’s advertising budget.

If approved, the lottery would contract with advertisers to promote scratch-off tickets and capitalize on the Arkansas Lottery’s upcoming five year anniversary. The goal is to shore up lagging ticket sales.

We have written about how the Arkansas Lottery also plans to roll out “monitor games” in the coming year in an effort to boost ticket sales.

Of course, one has to wonder: If the Arkansas Lottery is as strapped for cash as many say, where is this extra $500,000 coming from?  How is it the Lottery has been forced to cut its scholarship budget over and over again, and yet it has an extra half-a-million dollars available for advertising?

“New Tolerance” Doesn’t Tolerate Christians in the Workplace

In today’s Breakpoint Commentary, John Stonestreet wrestles with the “new tolerance” sweeping America–one that is not particularly tolerant toward Christians who hold the traditional view of marriage.

We’ve written recently about a Pasadena pastor who was placed on paid leave from his city job as a result of comments he made in sermons at church, but Stonestreet also points out the push-back others have received for supporting traditional marriage–ranging from the CEO of Mozilla to cake decorators and photographers.

Stonestreet writes,

“In every case, the message to those who disagree with all this sexual ‘tolerance’ is clear: If you want to keep your job, shut up.

“Apparently the sexual left cannot tolerate even the slightest dissent. As Kirsten Powers wrote this week in USA Today, ‘Welcome to the Dark Ages, Part II. We have slipped into an age of un-enlightenment where you fall in line behind the mob or face the consequences.'”
