Dr. Fay Boozman

Dr. Fay Boozman

The following blog post is by Family Council staff member David Cox.

Today many Arkansans—regrettably—have little recollection of Dr. Fay Boozman.  He was a doctor, legislator, Director of the Arkansas Department of Health, and—most importantly—a devoted Christian, father, and husband. Many people thought very highly of Dr. Boozman, including me.

I was fortunate enough to meet him before his untimely passing in 2005.

Nominate Someone for the Fay Boozman Award

We are now taking nominations for the 2012 Fay Boozman Award. If you know an outstanding, Christian physician you would like to nominate for the award, click here.

About Dr. Fay Boozman

Dr. Fay Boozman, (1946 – 2005), an ophthalmologist, directed the Arkansas Department of Health from 1999-2005.  He served two terms in the Arkansas Senate and ran for the United States Senate in 1998.  He founded and operated a successful medical clinic in Rogers, Arkansas. Dr. Boozman was a leader in his church and community.  All who knew him recognized his commitment to Jesus Christ and his desire to serve others.

Fay was a friend and supporter of the work of the Arkansas Physicians Resource Council. His sudden death as a result of a farming accident in 2005 stunned us, and broke our hearts. He is deeply missed. He was, as one of his many admirers has said, “one of the good guys.”

Dr. Lonnie Robinson Awarded the 2011 Fay Boozman Award

On Friday, Dr. Lonnie Robinson of Mountain Home was awarded the 2011 Fay Boozman Award by the Arkansas Physicians Resource Council—a division of Family Council.

The Fay Boozman Award is bestowed annually to an Arkansas doctor who exemplifies the strong Christian faith and commitment to community service and public health of Dr. Fay Boozman, an ophthalmologist and former director of the Arkansas Department of Health. Fay was suddenly taken from us as a result of an accident in 2005 at his farm, but through this award, we’ve tried to preserve his legacy.

Congratulations to Dr. Lonnie Robinson for being recognized as one of Arkansas’ outstanding Christian physicians!
