Senator Pryor Helps Kill Blunt Amendment

A bill known as “the Blunt Amendment” would have helped protect people’s religious liberties in the face of the HHS mandate requiring they purchase contraception coverage under Obamacare. Yesterday, Arkansas’ Senator Mark Pryor voted to kill the amendment.

I’m sure Senator Pryor is friends with some very devout Catholics. Senator Pryor and I have both sent sons to the same Catholic high school in Little Rock. I wonder what Father Tribou, Little Rock Catholic High School’s legendary school principal, would have to say, were he alive to learn the father of one of his students, a U.S. Senator, voted against something intended to protect religious liberty; given the fact that Father Tribou often stated his opinion very frankly to President Clinton, I’m sure he would want to speak with Senator Pryor about this matter.

Georgia House Passes Fetal Pain Bill

The Georgia state House has approved a measure that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy based on the scientific evidence showing unborn children feel pain.

This sort of legislation has been passed elsewhere around the country.

CA Offers Teens Free Condoms

California is offering free condoms to teens, ages 12-19, in select counties.

The state will mail up to 10 condoms per month for free to any teen who asks. It’s unclear whether parental consent or notification factors into the process, but as far as we can tell all the teens have to do is submit a request; the state will mail the condoms, no questions asked.

Yes, this is repulsive, and will only encourage more promiscuity among teenagers. Yes, they’re using public funds to do this. Yes, California’s economy is still in a slump, and its government has been trying for years to come up with enough money to make ends meet. No, this program does not make any sense.
