Words from Our Presidents: Reagan on the Bible

As part of a series entitled Words from Our Presidents we are bringing you different from quotes from U.S. Presidents on religion, religious liberty, and individual freedom. Today we have a quote from President Reagan’s proclamation designating 1983 “The Year of the Bible” in America and calling all Americans to reexamine the Bible’s “priceless and timeless message.”

“Of the many influences that have shaped the United States of America into a distinctive Nation and people, none may be said to be more fundamental and enduring than the Bible.”

U.S. Senate Passes ENDA with Pryor’s Help, Boozman’s Opposition

sen-pryor-photosen-boozman-photoOn Thursday the United States Senate voted to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).

Senator Boozman voted against ENDA. Senator Pryor voted for ENDA. You can see a breakdown of the votes here.

Despite its name, ENDA is not about preventing discrimination. It injects sexual preferences and sexual expression into the workplace, and it will prevent religious employers from establishing employee guidelines in keeping with their deeply-held religious beliefs.

FRC Publishes “ENDA Litigation Nightmare”

Family Research Council has published a fact sheet titled “The ENDA Litigation Nightmare.”

The fact sheet outlines examples of litigation we could see in our nation’s courts if Congress passes the so-called “Employment Non-Discrimination Act” — a bill that would inject sexual preferences and expression into the workplace.

FRC also released a statement today about religious exemptions written into the bill, calling the exemptions insufficient.

“The amendment added to ENDA today does virtually nothing to expand the already extremely narrow ‘religious exemption,’ and will do nothing to protect non-profits and businesses that operate from a faith perspective. Senators may be looking for political cover from this amendment, but ENDA removes the ability of non-profits, para-church ministries, and individual business owners to make their own decisions about appropriate conduct in the workplace.”
