FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, August 16, 2012

Yesterday Leo Johnson, a security guard employed by Family Research Council, was shot by an alleged gunman trying to enter the FRC headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Family Council President Jerry Cox issued the following statement, saying, “Our prayers are with Mr. Johnson, his family, and his colleagues at the Family Research Council. Our organization has a longstanding relationship with FRC. We’ve collaborated with them on a number of issues in the past, and it’s heartbreaking that this kind of senseless violence would happen to them.”

Cox said he hopes Americans of all political persuasions will pause to remember those affected by this tragedy, and pray for them and their families.

Family Council is a conservative education and research organization based in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Group Encourages Participation in Arkansas Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day

NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Friday, Family Council President Jerry Cox thanked former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s decision to spearhead a nationwide Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, which will take place all day Wednesday, August 1.

“I want to thank my friend, Governor Huckabee, for using his influence to amass national support for Chick-fil-A,” Cox said. “They have been viciously attacked simply because their President and COO, Dan Cathy, publicly reaffirmed his company’s Christian principles. We are encouraging Arkansans to eat at the nearest Chick-fil-A on August first to show support for this great American company. We are also asking folks to write a note of appreciation to Chick-fil-A at FamilyCouncil.org. Every note that we collect will be delivered to each restaurant in Arkansas and to the corporate office in Atlanta. These simple actions will show Chick-fil-A that they are appreciated. In the end, we hope that their strong stand for Christian values will encourage other businesses to do the same.

Family Council Denounces Poker Amendment

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2012

In a statement issued Friday, Family Council President Jerry Cox denounced a push to further legalize casino gambling in Arkansas.

“This is yet another case of a corporation trying to write itself into the Arkansas Constitution,” Cox said. “Nancy Todd’s Poker Palace and Entertainment, LLC, wants a casino monopoly. That’s what this is about.”

Cox pointed out this is not the first time a corporation has tried to write itself into the constitution. “Michael Wasserman, out of Texas, has tried it. This attempt isn’t any different. These people aren’t doing Arkansas any favors. They aren’t bringing casinos to Arkansas to benefit Arkansas. They’re doing it to fatten their wallets.”

Cox also addressed his group’s opposition to gambling in general. “It’s no secret that we oppose gambling. It hurts the poor, and pulls money out of the local economy. We fought the legalization of the so-called ‘games of skill’ at Oaklawn and Southland; now their racetracks are essentially just casinos with horses or greyhounds out back. We fought the lottery; you only have to read the papers to see what a fiasco it has been. If Arkansas lets a private company write itself into the constitution, I can guarantee we’re going to have even more trouble.”
