Rep. Bentley presents S.B. 6. before the Arkansas House of Representatives

On Wednesday the Arkansas House of Representatives passed S.B. 6.

This good bill by Sen. Jason Rapert (R – Conway) and Rep. Mary Bentley (R – Perryville) prohibits abortion in Arkansas except when the mother’s life is at risk.

The bill applies to all abortion procedures — including surgical abortions as well chemical abortions that utilize the RU-486 abortion drug.

The bill passed with 75 votes in favor of it. Eighteen representatives voted against it.

The bill now goes to Gov. Asa Hutchinson to become law.

Family Council is incredibly pleased at the passage of this excellent piece of legislation.

If enforced, S.B. 6 would save thousands of unborn children in Arkansas every year.

If the ACLU or others challenge this law, our federal court system will have an opportunity to overturn Roe v. Wade and other pro-abortion decisions.

Either way, this is an opportunity for Arkansas to be a real leader in the effort to end abortion in America.

Many people have been saying for almost fifty years that abortion should be illegal. The time has come for us to make it so.
