A study published by the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute contains some very alarming statistics.

From 1995 to 2008, about 1/5 of all babies were aborted.

Right now, the world population is estimated at about 7 billion. When we consider population growth and abortion percentages that occurred from 1995 to 2010, we can safely estimate that the world population should be at least 7.25 billion. In other words, abortion has claimed at least a quarter of a billion babies since 1995. That’s roughly 250 million children!

Those numbers probably don’t even come close to the actual number of abortions, because they’re based simply on net population growth (i.e. the number of people born minus the number of people who died annually), not the sheer number of pregnancies that happen each year. Realistically, if you compare the ratio of live births to abortions, it could be that as many as 400 million or more babies have been aborted worldwide. And by some estimations, these figures may be very conservative guesses since many countries do not accurately gather abortion statistics; the Guttmacher Institute has claimed in the past that as many as 40 million abortions occur annually worldwide. By those statistics, we could be looking at more like 600 million babies aborted from 1995 to 2010.

Some people will say that abortion reduces poverty or violence in the world–that if these 400 – 600 million children had been born, they would have lived in impoverished or violent communities. Here’s the deal: We do not euthanize poor people to put them out of their misery. With the exception of a relatively small number of violent offenders, we rarely execute criminals. We are a nation who believes in giving people the opportunity to build better lives for themselves. When 1/5 of the world’s children are murdered in the womb, it violates that fundamental belief. It robs them of the opportunity to better themselves and the world in which they live. And that is simply unacceptable.

This proves, once again, that the most dangerous place for a child to live is in the womb.
