National Day of Prayer Coming May 1

May 1, 2014, is the 63rd annual National Day of Prayer. We encourage you to join other Americans in raising your voice in praise and thanksgiving to God. For National Day of Prayer events in Arkansas go to http://nationaldayofprayer.org/events/.

In his article, “Still…Under God”, John Bornschein explains the history of the National Day of Prayer saying,

“[L]ike it or not, this great nation is still Under God – a God who is active in the affairs of men and their governing authorities (Proverbs 8:15; 21:1, Daniel 4:25). Groups like Planned Parenthood and the Freedom From Religion Foundation, among others, oppose the idea that people are accountable to an Almighty God. . . . Generation after generation, people seek to tear down the institutions that uphold what remaining moral layers prevail within a civilized society, offering nothing in return. After all, it is easier to tear down than to build up.”

Come Pray at the Capitol This Thursday

The Arkansas Legislature is in Session, and They Need the Godly Influence You Can Bring to the State Capitol!

Thursday, Feb. 27
8 – 9 a.m.: Free Pastor’s Prayer Breakfast in the Capitol Café (basement cafeteria). Hear from lawmakers, learn about ministry opportunities, and pray for our elected officials.

9-10 a.m.: Optional prayer walk/tour through the capitol.

Note: In addition to the legislature being in session, candidates from all over Arkansas will be in the Rotunda from Feb 24 – March 3 to officially file to run for all State and Federal offices. This is a great opportunity to see both the lawmaking and the candidate filing processes. You may want to contact your State Senator and State Representative to set up a time for a personal visit while you are at the Capitol.

Pastors are encouraged to attend, but anyone who wants to pray for those in authority is welcome! Please join us!

Please Join Us for the Pastor’s Prayer Assembly Next Week

Several years ago a state lawmaker told me that his rides home from Little Rock on the weekends were always a little depressing; he would pass his neighbors’ houses on his way into town, and he would reflect on how the votes he cast and the things he stood for that week hadn’t always reflected how the folks back home would have wanted him to act. How sad a situation. Encouragement, especially for a politician, can be difficult to give at times. However, the Apostle Paul tells Timothy to pray “for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty” (1 Tim 2:2).

That is why we are cordially inviting ministers across the state of Arkansas to join us in worship at the Capitol Building Thursday, February 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and also on Wednesday, March 5, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the Pastors Prayer Breakfast Assembly. We will start both days with breakfast in the Capitol Cafeteria (“Big Room”) located in the lower level of the Capitol Building, and then we will make our way upstairs for a short tour and assemble to pray for all of our 135 legislators and 7 constitutional officers. Optional activities are available afterwards.
