Rep. David Meeks presented a bill to the House Public Health Committee, today, that would prevent Arkansans from being penalized for failing to purchase government-approved health insurance under the new federal healthcare law.

We support this bill, because it stands up for Arkansas families. As one person pointed out during the debate, if people already have trouble affording health insurance, how can you expect them to be able to afford health insurance and a fine from the federal government?

The bill failed to get out of committee after a vote of 12-7.  You can watch a video of the debate below (Note: The audio is garbled at first, but improves after a about a minute).
