Nominate a Doctor for the 2014 Fay Boozman Award!

The Executive Committee of the Arkansas Physicians Resource Council is now accepting nominations for the tenth annual Fay Boozman Award. In honor of the late Dr. Fay Boozman, this award is given each year to a physician who lives out his or her Christian faith in three key areas:

  1. Personal life
  2. Professional practice
  3. Community

Our desire, along with Dr. Boozman’s family, is that this yearly award will bring honor and glory not to Fay, but to the Lord for whom he lived.

We will accept nominations for the Fay Boozman Award through Thursday, August 14, 2014. A review team will process each nomination, and a selection will be made after thorough review of all nominees. We will make the announcement as soon as a recipient is chosen, and the award will be presented at a dinner sponsored by the Arkansas Physicians Resource Council.

We hope that you can help us find the right physician to honor in 2014. Please take the time to nominate a friend, family member, or colleague who would be a worthy recipient of the Fay Boozman Award.

Please go to www.fayboozman.com and submit a nomination online before the nomination period ends on August 14th, 2014!

CO Planned Parenthood Handing Out “Abortion Awards”

Late last month Abby Johnson’s group And Then There Were None posted a picture it received from a former abortion clinic worker.

The picture is of a certificate dated May of 2013 recognizing the Aurora, CO, Planned Parenthood facility “for exceeding abortion visits [sic] first half of FY12 compared to fist half of FY13.”

Johnson writes,

“When our former [abortion clinic] worker saw this award on public display, it really started to change her thinking about Planned Parenthood’s motivation.  This award was given to their Aurora clinic for ‘exceeding abortion visits first half of fiscal year 2012 compared to first half of fiscal year 2013.’

“This means that the Aurora Planned Parenthood exceeded the abortion quota that was imposed on them.  And THAT is award worthy according to Planned Parenthood.”

Read further comments from Abby Johnson here and here.

The CEO and President of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains confirmed the certificate’s authenticity, writing,

A Few Fast Facts on the Arkansas Lottery

American_CashThe Arkansas Lottery just wrapped up Fiscal Year 2014. Year-end reports were posted on the agency’s website, recently. To summarize, here are a few fast facts on the Arkansas Lottery:

  • The Arkansas Lottery took in roughly $411 million in revenue from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.
  • Approximately 19.8% of lottery revenue went for scholarships (yes, that’s still one of the lowest percentages in the nation).
  • During the month of June, the Arkansas Lottery sold approximately $30.5 million worth of tickets.
  • During the month of June, roughly 82% of lottery ticket revenue came from scratch-off tickets; about 6.5% came from Powerball; the rest came from other games.
  • The Arkansas Lottery spent roughly $81.5 million on college scholarships this year; this is $8.4 million less than last year and $16 million less than the year before.
  • Overall, lottery revenue for the year was roughly $49 million less than budgeted.
  • Scholarship funding came out $8.1 million less than budgeted.

There is a silver lining in all these facts and figures: The fact that lottery revenue continues to decline means Arkansans are losing fewer and fewer of their hard-earned dollars playing the lottery.
